I think it’s strange to liberally use content warnings but then also liberally use local fedi conventions for shortening words. Nobody new is going to know what “ec” or “mh-“ means. It feels like we are asking folks to learn the local culture before they can avoid trauma. Is it that hard to write “eye contact” or “mental health”

...And fucking describe your images

hot take

@zenhob I think about this a lot. Once in a slack I didn’t understand “sui” and HELLA got triggered and it sucked.

(And I still haven’t figured out how to describe images yet IM SORRY IM TRYINN AND I did a heckuva lot of googling too 😭)

@Gizmo @zenhob fwiw some clients don’t properly support image descriptions so that might not be on you.

@zenhob sometimes, this depends. Because the CW counts towards your total character count. But also MH is a common abbreviation for mental health, so i genuinely don't think that one is that big of a deal. Often times, people are in a rush when posting and things like EC or MH aren't that difficult to parse. Theyre not like omgwtfbbq (which really means nothing) or IANAL.
I strongly disagree that it's anyone elses job to carry your baggage FOR you. If youre not sure, dont open

@ItsJenNotGabby @zenhob I think most people see “selfie” and assume eye contact, so the ec makes sense in that context. At least that was my personal experience. The whole concept of using a CW at all is new to anyone just signing up and heck, my using CW as an abbreviation is probably unclear!
